The 5 Rhythms® and me

about_emma

I am a South East Londoner born in Beckenham. My whole life has been immersed in the arts, involved in theatre for many years and art school.

I stumbled upon this incredible 5 Rhythms practice when I was 23 years old at a time in my life when I hit a crisis that would change the course of my path. It became my life line and helped me discover my true self away from my head trips.

After 10 years of immersing myself in the practice as a student I eventually trained with Gabrielle Roth to teach the foundation ‘Waves’ level of the 5 Rhythms in 2001, it is rooted in the physical expression of the body. As my work grew and I began to see the deeper healing for those who came to dance and in my community out-reach work, I took further training with Gabrielle in the more advanced “Heartbeat’ map of the practice which explores emotion as a dance in 2005.

My own study and practice of this work now spans over 25 years, it is a continuous life long teaching that I hope will hold me until I breathe my last dancing breath!

The 5 Rhythms Movement and dance meditation is my life’s work, I am privileged to be able to teach it to diverse audiences. It has given me witness to the most profound human experiences as a movement art. It has become my metaphor and philosophy for living.

I have traveled to different parts of the Globe and London’s suburbs taking the dance to a wide audience of disadvantaged communities, prisons, addiction clinics and youth at risk to the corporate business world.  This diverse range of communities has become invaluable in expanding my teaching skills and insight into all walks of life.
